About Us

Take Care is a project of Raphael House of Portland, a non-profit organization founded in 1977. Our mission is to provide a foundation of hope for women and children fleeing domestic violence.

Take Care began in 1999 as a 32-page resource guide for adults about domestic violence and quickly grew to Raphael House's largest community education effort. In Fall 2000, Take Care: a guide to safe relationships was published as a new version designed specifically for youth. The booklet has been widely distributed in over 24 states, from Washington to Florida, from California to Virginia.

Raphael House launched www.takecareonline.org in 2001 to give even more people the opportunity to access free information about healthy relationships. We are grateful to the following sponsors, without whom this project would not be possible: Target, Nike, Burgerville, Kaiser Permanente, Providence Health System, CareOregon and Boise Cascade.

Take Care helps people of all ages decipher the differences between healthy and unhealthy, and safe and unsafe relationships. The message of Take Care is simple: You deserve to be safe. You deserve to be happy. You deserve to be treated with respect.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about this very important topic.
