According
to the United States Bureau of Justice, 30% of female homicide
victims are murdered by an intimate partner. Often
abusers will hurt their victims in a part of the body
that is covered by clothing, where the injuries will
not be as obvious.
After an attack, it’s common for the relationship to enter
a “calm” stage, or “honeymoon” stage,
where the abuser might apologize, beg forgiveness, promise
to change, and even send flowers. While victims may want
to believe in these sentiments, these behaviors are usually
part of the cycle of intimate partner violence.
